Dr. Carla Rodrigues, owner of Pawsitive Healing, Veterinary Rehabilitation and Acupuncture in Jacksonville, recently hosted a local artisan market with artists who displayed and sold handmade woodworking, pottery, ceramics, jewelry art, pet portraits, photography, crystals and more to benefit Jacksonville Humane Society, a no-kill, pet adoption shelter.
The nonprofit received an $800 donation from the proceeds along with additional donations from sixth-grade students at Presbyterian Riverside School who painted their own pet portraits for purchase.
The market was held May 8 at 1617 Thacker Ave. in the San Marco neighborhood of Jacksonville. Rodrigues said she regularly holds events and activities as her philanthropy to benefit pets and people in need throughout Northeast Florida.
Participating artisans and organizations included The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach, Riverside Presbyterian Day School, Old Colony Woodworks, Jade Paws, Switzerland Animal Hospital, Marshland Pottery, Ingravity Art and Utter Chaos Creations, among others.
Rodrigues focuses on alternative pet wellness and medicine and is certified in reiki energy healing, canine rehabilitation and veterinary acupuncture. She completed her clinical year of veterinary school at the University of Minnesota and practiced medicine in California and North Carolina before moving to Jacksonville in 2017.
“Whether I am treating a young, injured pet or an arthritic senior dog, there is something so special about being a part of the happiness and fulfillment that comes with alternative and integrative medicine,” said Rodrigues.
Rodrigues specializes in creating a home environment for pets and their owners while practicing rehabilitation and arthritis management, laser therapy, injury and surgical recovery, muscle relaxation, hydrotherapy, strengthening exercises, massage, acupuncture, reiki energy healing, herbal and traditional medicine.
