Tina Henle is Butterfield Art Gallery’s first featured artist of 2022.

She is an award-winning freelance photographer with more than 40 years of experience with fine art, portrait, wedding and commercial photography.

Growing up on the island of St. Croix, she acquired her first cameras at the ages of 14 and 18: a 35mm Rollei and a twin-lens Rolleiflex from her father, Fritz Henle. Thus began her love for photography and passion for travel and diverse cultures.

In 1984, she received a bachelor’s degree in art and anthropology from the University of New Mexico and worked and mentored with her father throughout the 1980s. She has exhibited her work in numerous group and solo shows and was co-owner of the Henle Gallery in St. Croix for 27 years.

For January’s exhibit, Henle has focused her camera on the sky.

“Nature is my solace,” she said. “From aerial landscapes over tropical islands to miles of pristine beaches to the stormy skies of summer to the full moon’s mystique, Earth’s beauty has captured my eye.”

Her viewpoint has an abstract quality, even as the image is purely descriptive. This visual “juggling” is present in many of her photographs.

Henle resides and freelances in St. Augustine. She continues to travel worldwide, always adding to her portfolio of creative fine art photography. She has been a member of the Butterfield Art Gallery since 2017.

The gallery will host the exhibit’s opening from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, during Artwalk. It will continue to feature Henle’s fine art photography throughout the month.
