Pink Up the Pace 5K celebrates 10th anniversary

Hundreds of First Coast residents flocked to St. Augustine earlier this month to participate in the 10th anniversary of the Pink Up the Pace 5K.

Held Saturday, Oct. 6, the largest 5K in the Ancient City started in front of the Visitors Center and finished at Francis Field. Cancer survivors, family and friends participated and remembered those who were lost. The event also included a fun run for children. The day before on Oct. 5, an expo was held for local community businesses supporting the organization.

Pink Up the Pace assists underinsured and uninsured individuals in navigating the financial challenges of early breast cancer detection, as well as increases public awareness of the importance of early detection and provides support to survivors and their families. The organization was founded by Cindy Chaconas, who was diagnosed in 2009 with stage II breast cancer.
