The Ponte Vedra High School girls volleyball team is heading to the Class 6A state volleyball semifinals after defeating Fivay High School 3-2 on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
The team will now travel to Jacksonville on Saturday, Nov. 11 to play Bishop Kenny in the semifinal contest. The Sharks beat the Crusaders 3-0 last year to advance to the finals, where the team lost to Bishop Moore.
Before beating Fivay on Tuesday, Ponte Vedra defeated the Santa Fe Raiders 3-1 on Nov. 1 at the Shark Tank. Santa Fe won the first match 25-23. The score bounced back and forth between the two teams, with Ponte Vedra leading for most of the match. But ultimately Santa Fe pushed ahead in the last two minutes.
In match two, Ponte Vedra rallied and scored point after point thanks to consistent serving by sophomore Logan Mignerey and defeated Santa Fe 25-10. With high spirits, the girls sailed through the last two matches and won 25-18 and 25-17, respectively.
