The Ponte Vedra Sharks continued their season on Friday, Aug. 28, with a 28-21 overtime loss to the Bishop Kenny Crusaders.
The Sharks got off to a good start when they forced a three and out on the game’s first possession, but not much went their way after that. In the last play of the first half, Noah Ash put the Sharks on the board with a 28-yard field goal to make the score 21-3.
The Sharks narrowed the gap to 21-10 in the third quarter when quarterback Carter Sole connected with Cade Turner from 20 yards out. Sole and Turner connected again in the fourth quarter on a 79-yard touchdown, and after a successful two-point conversion the Sharks had pulled within three points of the Crusaders.
Ponte Vedra tied the game with three seconds remaining on the clock to force overtime; however, the Crusaders scored a touchdown on the first play of overtime putting the Sharks at 0-2 on the season.
Sole completed 33 passes for 417 yards, and Turner had seven receptions totaling 158 yards and two touchdowns. The Sharks will return to the Shark Tank on Friday, Sept. 4, to take on the Merritt Island Mustangs.
The Nease Panthers fell to the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets on Aug. 28 with a final score of 28-22. They are now 0-2 on the season. The Panthers defense put up an impressive performance with five sacks in the game. Nease will face the Mainland Buccaneers on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
The Creekside Knights defeated the Fleming Island Golden Eagles on Aug. 28 with a final score of 45-28. Creekside is now 2-0 on the season, and they will be on the road on Sept. 4 to take on the Fletcher Senators.
