Ponte Vedra resident leads team to 4th place finish at 2016 ITF Young Seniors Championships

Six American teams participated in the championships, with 24 players competing for six cups in the 35- to 45-and-Over equivalent of tennis’ Davis Cup and Fed Cup competitions. The ITF Young Seniors World Championships is the highest-ranked event on the ITF Seniors Circuit for male and female players in the age categories of 35-45.

In addition to the Women’s team, the Men’s 45 & Over team finished fifth in the Dubler Cup. On the women’s side, Stanford was joined by Kaysie Smashey of San Angelo, Texas, Nancy Hillard of Corpus Christi, Texas and Yulia Bolotova of Philadelphia. On the men’s team were Ricardo Mena of Key Biscayne, Fla., Captain Eoin Collins of Houston and Willie Dann of Denver, N.C.

Other top U.S. teams included the Women’s 40 & Over and Women’s 45 & Over tied for sixth in the Young Cup, the Men’s 40 & Over in eigth place for the Trabert Cup and the Men’s 35 & Over in ninth place for the Italia Cup.
