The key to any good relationship is trust--and Dr. Erika Hamer, of the Ponte Vedra Wellness Center, has earned the trust of Ponte Vedra Beach residents for the past fifteen years.
“I opened my practice in 2004, and I’ve definitely expanded services over the last 15 years, which has been awesome,” Dr. Hamer said.
Rather than treating already-occurring illnesses, Ponte Vedra Wellness Center focuses on improving overall health to reduce the risk of illness before it begins. The center uses alternative and holistic medicine along with customized programs to target the patient’s needs.
And it seems to be working. Over the years, Dr. Hamer moved her practice to a larger location, started a personal training company and opened a second Wellness Center location in Nocatee. “Now, my practice is mostly referral-based,” she said. “It’s wonderful because when you see these new patients come in, they’re excited and it’s like you already know them.”
Her practice expansion is a large accomplishment, but that was never Dr. Hamer’s primary mission. Her goal was to establish a family and community-oriented practice to meet and help people in her area. Not only has she also met that goal, but she’s managed to help area families from multiple generations.
“There was this one patient, I treated his father and his grandmother. Now, this patient just had a baby and I got to treat the new baby,” she said. “That’s four generations within this family that I get to take care of, along with the spouse of that family. It’s amazing to know I'm who they go to, to take care of them. That gives me my purpose.”
