The Ponte Vedra High School Lady Sharks Varsity Golf Team capped off its exceptional season with a fifth place finish at the FHSAA Class 2A State Golf Championship tournament on October 30-31 at Mission Inn resort.

The Sharks improved their positioning from the prior year’s seventh place campaign by shooting a team score of 675.

The Sharks were led by team captain senior Hannah Berman who fired a 76-75 for a 9th place individual finish in the final high school tournament of her seven-year varsity run. Berman played for four years at The Bolles School before moving to Ponte Vedra and joining the Sharks squad as a sophomore. The Sharks won the District and Regional tournaments as a team and Berman won the individual Regional championship, her second in three years. She will be playing college golf at the University of West Florida as an early commit, and will sign her National Letter of Intent next week.

Senior Theresa Irwin also capped off her career, following her Regional best score with her best State individual finish.

The under classmen Sharks also has an exceptional post season run with Sophie Membrino and Sarah McKevitt taking second and third place in Regionals, completing the team podium sweep. Freshman Megan Burke shot a career low at Regionals and gained some valuable experience at States, whetting her appetite for future Sharks success.

Said coach Clint Finlay, “These girls played exceptional team golf all season long. They supported each other, held each other up on good days and bad days, and truly enjoyed the journey together. I will certainly miss the seniors, and I am looking forward to having a great core of talent to build on as we go forward.”
