QB Nieves has big game, but Nease falls to St. Augustine

Nease put up some impressive numbers but the Panthers’ rally attempt fell short in a 55-45 loss to visiting St. Augustine on Friday, Oct. 18.

Panthers quarterback Joseph Nieves passed for 343 yards and three touchdowns and led the team in rushing with 170 yards and two TDs. Johkyreian Shealey added 120 yards receiving on five catches with two touchdowns for Nease.

The Panthers (1-7, 0-3 District 1-8A) trailed 21-10 after the first quarter and 27-16 at the half. Both teams added 21 points apiece in the third quarter, and Nease outscored the Yellow Jackets 8-7 in the fourth quarter but couldn’t make up the difference.

St. Augustine quarterback Sam Edwards passed for 297 yards and six touchdowns, but the Panthers limited the Yellow Jackets to just 85 yards on the ground.

Nease next plays visiting Oakleaf (5-3, 1-2) in a district matchup at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25.
