Race, fun run to help address gaps in services in foster care

An upcoming 5K and fun run will help a local nonprofit organization provide needed essentials and educational programs for children and youth in foster care.

The inaugural Foster Friends 5K, planned for Nov. 6 in Nocatee, will help Fostering Connections St. Johns to fill gaps in services.

This fun family event will begin at 8 a.m. at Nocatee Station Field, 400 Nocatee Center Way. The fun run begins at 9:30 a.m.

Packet pick-up on race day begins at 7 a.m. Packet pick-up on Nov. 5 will be at Anderson Realty, 185 Murabella Parkway, Suite 5, St. Augustine.

Participants are encouraged to don their favorite ‘90s gear (in keeping with the “F • R • I • E • N • D • S” theme) and run, jog or walk through the trails of the Nocatee community. Registration is $30 until Nov. 5 and $35 on race day. Registration for the fun run is $10. Fees can be paid online or by check to 100 Southpark Blvd., Suite 405, St. Augustine, FL 32086

Foster Friends 5K T-shirts will be given to everyone who registers by Oct. 23.

This will be a chip-timed race. Runners can pick up their time chip when they check in and get their race-day packets.

Overall male and female winners of the 5K will receive awards.

First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded to both male and female runners in the following age groups in the 5K: 10 and younger, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and older.

Fostering Connections St. Johns lifts up children and youth ages birth through 23 who live in St. Johns, Putnam, Flagler and Volusia counties and have been impacted by foster care or childhood trauma.
