The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach honored the service and dedication of its members at its end-of-year awards ceremony on Thursday, June 25.

Marc Savy received the club’s most honorable and prestigious award, with President Vickie Cavey naming him Rotarian of the Year. Savy was recognized for his efforts leading the Family of Rotary committee.

Beverly Flanagan received the Service Above Self Award for her two years of dedication to the club and the community as chair of service projects. Jim Van Horn received the Don Blackburn Award for his generous support of Rotary and its mission.

Charter member Al Hammack was recognized as a Rotary "Rock Star" for his decades of dedication to the club as chair of membership and his overall values of service above self. Rounding out the awards, Bethany Mathewson was named Rookie of the Year for her significant contributions to the club as a newer member.

In addition to the awards, Cavey recognized the club’s board of directors, committee heads, and several other members who contributed to the year’s success. A select group of members (Paul Harris Fellows) were also recognized for their contributions to the Rotary Foundation to support its charitable and humanitarian work around the world.

“It was another successful, albeit unique, year for the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach,” Cavey said. “Even amid the pandemic and a transition to meetings via Zoom, our club didn’t miss a beat. I want to thank our members for their contributions to the club and to our community this year. I’ve been honored to serve as president for the past 18 months.”

The ceremony recognized Cavey’s presidency and leadership, while also ushering in Sam Hall as the club's new president.

“I am humbled to lead the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach as its next president,” Hall said. “Those who have served in this role before me, including Vickie Cavey, have set a high bar. I look forward to building upon the good work they have done in this community for so many years.”
