Dedicated to spreading the aura of THE PLAYERS Championship and the legends to walk its fairways, TPC Sawgrass Storytellers celebrated their 10th anniversary during an awards luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the Clubhouse Sunset Room.
At the event, the Storytellers donated $25,000 worth of tips collected throughout the year to five deserving charities. This year’s beneficiaries included the Veterans Council of St. Johns County and Rolling Thunder, whose members initiated the ceremony with a ride up Championship Way, as well as Florida Urgent Rescue, Healing Hearts Project at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Therapy Animal Coalition.
“Our group of Storytellers is 50 strong,” Committee Chair Denny Lynch said. “We’re forever grateful for the generous contributions made by members and guests throughout the year. They give us the ability to turn our personal passion for golf into a chance to help out on some truly amazing projects in the community.”
In addition, local men and women in uniform were recognized at the luncheon, as winners from this year’s military tournament were announced. The event is co-sponsored annually by TPC Sawgrass and the Storytellers and allows troops stationed at the three area Naval bases to compete for proceeds in a fun environment.
The Storytellers are a group of volunteers providing year-round tours of the 77,000 square-foot Mediterranean Revival-style Clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass, as well as the historic finishing holes of THE PLAYERS Stadium Course. At the end of the year, the group collects tips for deserving charities in the local community. Since inception, the Storytellers have donated more than $180,000.
