In an effort to help public school teachers prepare for the 2016-2017 academic year, the St. Johns County Tax Collector will have donation barrels available at all five branch locations to accept school supplies throughout the first week in August.

Blue barrels, provided by Tools 4 Schools, will be located at each of the five SJTC branch offices through August 5. Donors may help local teachers by dropping off any type or quantity of new, unopened school supplies, including extra reams of copy paper, tissues, cleaning supplies, filing materials and art or writing supplies.

“Our teachers selflessly give of themselves – their time, talent and treasure – for the good of our children throughout the school year,” said St. Johns County Tax Collector Dennis W. Hollingsworth. “Providing collection sites for donated classroom supplies is the very least we can do to say we appreciate their vocation.”

Teachers spend an average of $600 of their own money each year on school supplies, according to Investing in Kids (INK), a direct support organization of the St. Johns County School District.
