Soccer girls mercy Paxon

The Ponte Vedra girls’ soccer team advanced to the District 3 regional semi-finals against Stanton by virtue of an 8-0 mercy win over Paxon last Thursday evening at the Sharks’ field. The Sharks collected five first half goals then sent Paxon packing with three more in the first ten minutes of the second half. Abby and Molly Miller combined for four of the Sharks eight goals.

Marissa Reinker started the scoring for Ponte Vedra by booting home a rebound on a shot by Mary Stephens eight minutes into the game.

Angeline Daly pushed the lead to 2-0 with a blast past the Paxon keeper four minutes later. Daly then set up Abby Miller with a perfect cross to up the Sharks’ advantage to 3-0 midway through the half.

Stephens headed in a corner kick by Piper Dotsikas and Tatum Taucher’s goal with less than a minute in the half put Ponte Vedra up by five.

The second half had hardly begun when Kristen Sandifer’s airborne pass to Miller was headed home for a 6-0 PV advantage. Molly Miller joined the family celebration with a goal of her own at the 3 minute mark of the second half and sister Abby finished the scoring with her third goal of the night.

The girls will travel to Stanton on Tues., Jan. 26 for 7 p.m. game. Earlier in the season, Ponte Vedra and Stanton played a 2-2 tie.
