St. Augustine Distillery rum wins gold medal

St. Augustine Distillery’s Pot Distilled Rum was recently awarded a gold medal at the 2016 San Francsico World Spirits Competition, held March 17-20 at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco.

More than 1,850 entries were submitted by distilleries from around the world, organizers said, making the 2016 competition the largest in the event’s histroy. Judging was conducted by a panel of 39 spirits experts.

St. Augustine Distillery co-founder and CEO Philip McDaniel noted that the medal-winning rum made its debut in January.

“In just a few months, our Pot Distilled Rum won a gold medal at one of the industry’s most prestigious spirits competitions,” he said. “We are honored that our rum was up against some of the finest in the industry and took home a top award.”

The gold medal win brings St. Augustine Distillery’s total medal count to 25, McDaniel said, with awards garnered for its gin and vodka as well as rum.

Located at 112 Riberia St., the St. Augustine Distillery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, with free guided tours and tastings held every half hour.
