St. Johns County Parks and Recreation to hold open tryouts Feb. 9 for March Madness Youth Basketball League

The St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department’s youth basketball league tips off another season for athletes ages 9-14 with open tryouts scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9 at Ketterlinus Gymnasium in St. Augustine. 

Tryouts will be held between 9 a.m. and noon. All players who try out will make a team. League age is based on the age of the child as of March 1, 2019.

Practices and games will take place in St. Augustine at the Solomon Calhoun Community Center at 1300 Duval St., and at Ketterlinus Gymnasium at 60 Orange St. All games will be played on Saturday mornings or afternoons. Game schedules will be finalized in February. Individual coaches will schedule team practice days and times.

League divisions and times for open tryouts on Saturday, Feb. 9

Boys 9-10 at 9 a.m.

Boys 11-12 at 10 a.m.

Boys 13-14 at 11 a.m.

Girls 9-11 at noon

Girls 12-14 at noon

To register for March Madness Youth Basketball League, fill out a registration form and return it to Collier-Blocker-Puryear Community Center, located at 10 N. Holmes Blvd. in St. Augustine, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. You can also return the forms at the Parks and Recreation Main Office located at 2175 Mizell Road in St. Augustine, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Both locations are open Monday through Friday. 

Registration forms are available online at sjcfl.us/recreation/youth/basketball.aspx. Completed registration forms must be accompanied by a copy of your child’s birth certificate and a $30 non-refundable participation fee with checks made out to St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department.
