The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach Sunset has renamed its annual scholarship program in memory of former club president and active district Rotarian Jeff Hart.

Henceforth, the club will annually present the “Jeff Hart Memorial Service Above Self Scholarship” to a graduate of both Ponte Vedra and Allen D. Nease high schools. The $1,000 scholarship will be presented to applicants who are involved in community service; currently enrolled as juniors or seniors at either school; and planning to attend college, university, technical or trade school after high school graduation. Children of Rotarians are not eligible for scholarship consideration.

A Rotarian since 2004, Hart was active in the international service organization at both the club and district level and exemplified Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self,” club members said. In addition to serving as a club president, he served as Rotary foundation chair and as district chair for Rotary Youth Exchange, which each year sends local high school students to study in countries around the world. Hart also served as advisor for Nease High School’s Interact Club and as chair of the Sunset Rotary Club’s “Service Above Self Scholarship” from its inception in 2011. In 2018, Hart received Rotary District 6970’s Brent Williams Spirit of Rotary Award. He died in April 2019.
