The City of Atlantic Beach has a history of promoting tennis as one of the town’s top recreational activities, and this month will be jampacked with three separate tennis youth camps.
The first week will take place July 14-17, while the second week will be July 21-24 and the final camp is July 28-31.
Each camp will be held at Jack Russell Park Tennis Courts No. 5 and 6 located at 800 Seminole Road in Atlantic Beach.
Registration can be for one or all the weeks, and the fee is $25 per child per week.
The goal of the camp is to teach the fundamentals of the tennis game to children of various age groups and skill levels.
The age groups will be broken up into three categories, including “dinkers,” which will consist of ages six to eight years old, “future stars,” nine to 11 years old and “aces,” which will be 12 to 14 years old.
The children will be taught skills by an instructor who has ben certified by the United States Tennis Association and is up to date on the rules of the game and the latest techniques used to learn.
A maximum of 20 students will be accepted into each age group per week, and equipment will be provided for all those who attend, but children can bring their own racket if they choose to.
Parents can register their children by calling 904-247-5828, by emailing recreation@coab.us or by going to www.coab.us/recpermits.
This is just the latest event the city has held with tennis being at the center of bringing the community together, including a daddy/daughter tennis clinic that was hosted in late June.
Outside of summer camps, several tennis professionals offer various independent teaching throughout the year around Atlantic Beach from one-on-one instruction to small groups and hitting partner services for more advanced players.
Each teaching professional must have an active registration with the City of Atlantic Beach to charge for services offered at city-owned courts.
