Turkey Trot raises $5K for St. Johns CARES

About 400 people ran and walked in the 6th Annual Turkey Trot 5K in Nocatee on Thanksgiving morning. As a result, Dr. Abigail Levrini, the owner of Nocatee-based Psych Ed Connections, was able to present a check for $5,000 to Mary Ann Kriniske, St. Johns CARES Inc. president.

Levrini is an avid runner and longtime Nocatee resident. When she opened her practice in Nocatee in 2015 she decided that Psych Ed Connections would create a much needed Thanksgiving “turkey trot” race that would raise money for local charities.

Levrini and Kriniske teamed up, with St. Johns CARES supplying volunteers to help put on the event.

Proceeds from the Turkey Trot will be used by St. Johns CARES to support the annual Giving Tree initiative and scholarships for homeless students enrolling in higher education after high school graduation.

The Giving Tree helps meet client wishes of 41 nonprofit organization partners in St. Johns County serving the elderly, veterans, homeless, abused, children and animals. Fifty-nine host donation collection sites throughout the county are presently displaying holiday wish tags and collection boxes. The host sites include businesses, libraries, schools and neighborhoods. Donations will be distributed to the nonprofit organizations the week of Dec. 13.
