From its humble beginnings as little more than a local newsletter, the Ponte Vedra Recorder has morphed into a weekly community newspaper serving the Ponte Vedra area. To keep up with the times, the Recorder has changed through the years to engage readers and advertisers alike. Most recently, readers had the chance to nominate and vote for the 2019 Best of the Best Ponte Vedra in the 32081 and 32082 ZIP codes. Launched May 16, the contest is in recognition of the newspaper’s 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated in November (#CheersTo50Years)
Just like any other new initiative, the Recorder staff and leadership had no idea what to expect. The response was overwhelming. Nearly 2,500 businesses and individuals were nominated by the May 31 deadline. Then the voting began.
Interest was high and consistent throughout the voting period from June 1 to July 20 with more than 3,500 people casting votes.
After all 45,280 votes were tallied, 189 entrants were victorious in more than 240 categories.
The winners listed in this special section and the thousands more who were nominated reflect the true nature of what makes the area so special. It’s the people and businesses working together to elevate the entire community.
To the winners, wear your Best of the Best Ponte Vedra badge with pride, knowing the title comes from the people who rely on your goods and services. It is a stamp of approval that recognizes your dedication and exceptionalism.
To the voters, thank you for the overwhelming participation. A community only flourishes if individuals take an active role in its growth and prosperity. By actively participating to name the best Ponte Vedra has to offer, voters were empowered to change how residents and visitors view local businesses.
In keeping with the changing landscape of media, the Recorder has increased its digital footprint with more online posts and a free Monday newsletter delivered to inboxes by request. This is in addition to print products like the First Coast Register and special publications delivered throughout the year.
