Apex Theatre Studio will present its inaugural Fall Young Artists Showcase Friday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
To be presented at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, the program will feature artists ages 8 to 18 from the Northeast Florida area in a variety of performances developed during Apex Studio’s inaugural fall training sessions.
“There is a little something for everyone,” said Ian Mairs, executive director of Apex. “And the way our format works, this show is very fast paced and entertaining.”
The musical theater workshop will present a staged medley of songs from the current Broadway hit, “Matilda,” featuring numbers such as “Naughty” and “Revolting Children” under the direction of workshop leader Leah Page and featuring choreography by Michelle Ottley-Fisher. The acting and improvisation workshop will follow with a contemporary update of Aesop’s Fables which highlight the multifaceted skills of each ensemble member.
“Our improv and acting class is filled with students who excel at so many kinds of skills, such as gymnastics, musical instruments, tumbling and clowning, that we wanted to incorporate them into our storytelling,” said Jason Nettle, who heads the acting program at Apex.
The upper division scene study class will present a short one-act comedy titled “Freeze Tag” by Jaquelyn Reingold. The stage combat class, meanwhile, will offer up a highly-charged fight presentation which involves a series of hilariously disgruntled Christmas elves.
Tickets for the Fall Young Artists Showcase are $15 and available for purchase at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Offices, ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at (800) 745-3000. Doors open for the Fall Young Artists Showcase at 6 p.m.
