Even after a strong beginning, writing a novel can be challenging. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by the long middle section where the plot meanders and characters drift off on their own. Award-winning author Kaye Schmitz delivers keys for “Mastering the Messy Middle” at the Ponte Vedra Writers meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.
Schmitz acknowledges that even with a dynamite beginning and killer ending, the middle can be a saggy mess. Her session will help writers overcome that hurdle by learning the following:
Schmitz is the author of four award-winning novels with a fifth on the way. With a successful background in senior management at IBM and United Way, she launched her own regional nonprofit organization, The Real $ense Prosperity Campaign, which expanded statewide.
She is now a full-time writer and a member of the Florida Writers Association, Sisters in Crime, Women’s Fiction Writers Association, International Thriller Writers and the Historical Fiction Society.
The Ponte Vedra Writers group is affiliated with the Florida Writers Association, a statewide membership organization dedicated to the support of both aspiring and published writers in any genre.
The Sept. 26 meeting is free and open to members and non-members alike. For information on FWA, go to floridawriters.org.
