Brookdale Southside gives back

On May 4, the residents of Brookdale Southside presented Jacksonville firefighters from Station 44 with a gift of $1,500 in grocery gift cards.

The residents wanted to show their appreciation for some of the people who help their community the most.

Brookdale Resident Council President Carl Foutz spread the word around the community that they wanted to buy grocery gift cards for their local fire department. Foutz asked residents to donate money to support this fundraiser and got an overwhelming response.

“Our Resident Council started a fund drive to get gift cards to Publix to feed the station who serves our community,” said Foutz. “They raised $1,500 and divided it among three shifts. Our residents were very grateful for all they do for our community. They invited them back to Wii bowling and happy hour any time.”

There were three firefighters in attendance from Station 44 to accept the gift.
