The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus has announced its 17th annual “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” concert. This annual performance honors the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and celebrates Black History Month through the power of song and community.
The concert is scheduled for Feb. 28 at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, 4001 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the performance begins at 2 p.m.
The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus will perform alongside special guests Edward Waters University Concert Choir, Florida State College at Jacksonville Combined Choirs and the Ritz Chamber Players.
The event is sponsored by VyStar Credit Union and Florida State College at Jacksonville. Emcees for the performance will be Dr. Audrieanna Burgin, economist, and Coley Jones, senior vice president and business banking market executive at Bank of America.
Darren Dailey, president and artistic director of the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus, reflected on the annual performance.
“With each year’s ‘Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing’ concert, we are reminded of our objective to deliver a performance that is rooted in remembrance, yet looks forward with intention,” he said. “As we come together to honor the change brought about by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and many other activists, we also aim to use hope and harmony to encourage reflection and progress on the challenges our country still faces today.”
Tickets are available for $20 in advance for general admission (online only), $35 for reserved seating and $25 for general admission at the door. All proceeds support the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus’ ongoing programming and scholarship funds.
