Coastal home collapses in Ponte Vedra Beach

Posted

A house located near the 2700 block of South Ponte Vedra Boulevard has begun to collapse onto the beach, St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SJCFR) reported today, Jan. 3 on its Facebook page after having been called to the scene along with local law enforcement.

In addition to posting two photos showing the rear of the unoccupied home where the entire back wall of the structure had crumbled, SJCFR confirmed that public safety personnel had secured the scene, and that the appropriate agencies had been notified regarding the structure's instability. No injuries were reported.

The incident is just one of several cases of structural damage throughout the Beaches communities following the extensive impacts of Hurricane Irma this past September and Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Locally, the increased erosion along the coastline has resulted in some residents’ determination to “Save Ponte Vedra Beach.” Additional information about their beach renourishment efforts can be found at www.savepontevedrabeach.com.
