Champions for Children Gala
Tonight, the Malivai Washing Youth Foundation will present its largest annual fundraiser, the Current/Sherman Group of Merrill Lynch Champions for Children Gala at the Florida Blue Conference Center in Jacksonville. The gala has traditionally raised approximately $200,000 annually to support the programs and services of the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation (MWYF). Eighteen MWYF students who have earned scholarships will be recognized during the dinner, and guests will have the opportunity to participate in several raffles and bid on auction items.
Alumni members Keanna Bell and Deshawn “Scotty” Brown will give testimonials about the foundation during the dinner. Guest will also hear from founder and Ponte Vedra resident MaliVai Washington and featured guest Chris Evert. Then, on the 16th, the foundation will host a tennis pro-am at the San Jose Country Club. The pro-am is an exclusive opportunity for guests to play tennis with local teaching pros and celebrities. The MWYF’s core programs include a comprehensive K-12 afterschool youth development program, Tennis & Tutoring (TnT), in the urban core of Jacksonville, and a complementing summer camp program (Camp Dynamite). The programs include homework assistance, life skills classes and tennis lessons. For more information, visit malwashington.com.
