First Florida Credit Union will continue its Koins for Kids initiative for a second year. The weeklong charitable event is designed to support local community Girl Scout troops.
The event takes place Dec. 15-19 at 12 First Florida locations across the greater Jacksonville area and Tallahassee. This year, First Florida is matching the first $500 of donations.
In partnership with the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council, Koins for Kids encourages local Girl Scouts to bring their “piggy banks” and empty them into the credit union’s coin machines. Every cent collected helps ensure more girls can experience Girl Scouting by reducing financial barriers.
Participating First Florida Credit Union branches will be open to accept donations throughout regular business hours, Dec. 15-19. Local branches include:
Girl Scouts will receive a special Koins for Kids patch and a certificate of appreciation for their donation. Those interested can also learn more about the First Florida Sand Dollar Savings Club. Additionally, First Florida members are encouraged to make donations during the event week to further support the cause.
“It's the perfect time of the year to inspire generosity and compassion in the next generation,” said Michelle Troha, chief marketing officer of First Florida Credit Union. “On top of that, we are raising funds for an organization that makes a true difference in the community.
Every year, First Florida Credit Union expands its community impact across North Florida. The funds collected during the event will be used to expand Girl Scout programs to areas where financial resources are limited. These programs include activities that build confidence and character while providing life-changing experiences in leadership development, STEM education and more.
