The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach hosted an opening reception April 15 to launch “Collection of Impulses” – an exhibition of artwork by nationally recognized artist Sharon Booma.

A Ponte Vedra Beach resident, Booma relocated full-time to the Beaches area in 2013 after splitting her time for many years between homes in Boston and Ponte Vedra. She has exhibited her work for more than two decades at galleries in such diverse locations as New York City, Santa Fe, the Netherlands and Des Moines. Reviews of her work have been published in ArtNews, Art in America and Studio International.

“This is the first gallery in Jacksonville that Sharon has exhibited in,” Director of Programs and Exhibitions Leigh Rodante said. “She normally shows in New York and internationally. We’re very excited to be able to exhibit her works at the cultural center.”

Ponte Vedra Beach resident Marilyn McAfee was excited to attend the exhibition.

“I’ve been taking classes at the cultural center for over 10 years, and I was here when they were installing some of Sharon’s artwork,” she said. “Her pieces just blew me away.”

Jayne Evans agreed.

“We love Sharon Booma’s work,” Evans said. “I like her layers and her approach. She keeps adding layers, then she peels it away to let something beneath reveal itself.”

“Collection of Impulses” is on display at the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach through May 27.
