Now through April 18, 2027, the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens will mark its 65th anniversary in part with an exhibition showcasing a selection of works that were added to the museum’s collection in the past five years. Media include paintings, sculptures, works on paper and decorative objects.
“The Cummer Museum at 65” highlights a collection centered on culture, beauty and accessibility, while honoring the enduring legacy of the museum’s founder, Ninah Cummer.
“Ninah Cummer’s vision always included participation from the community in building the collection. It is a testament to the support of our community that the museum’s permanent collection has become a world-class treasure Jacksonville can be proud of,” commented Holly Keris, J. Wayne & Delores Barr Weaver chief curator.
“The Cummer Museum at 65” includes works purchased by the museum, given to the museum or promised in future years.
In addition to the works featured in The Cummer Museum at 65, recently acquired and gifted works are also on view throughout other galleries in the museum. These works have been actively integrated into museum programming, tours and workshops.
Promised works and gifts such as Robert Seldon Duncanson’s “Landscape with Fishing Scene” are included in current exhibition “Touring the Landscape: Art, Travel, and the Shaping of American Identity,” which recently received an award from the Southeastern Museums Conference.
Museum-purchased “Translated Vase” by Yeesookyung offers an important modern counterpoint in the middle of the museum’s lauded Wark Collection of Early Meissen Porcelain.
