Republican Randy Fine and Democrat Josh Weil will face off in the special general election for the District 6 U.S. Representative seat. The winner will replace former U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz, who resigned after being selected by incoming President Donald Trump as national security adviser.
Congressional District 6 includes parts of St. Johns, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Putnam and Volusia counties.
Fine received 83% of the vote to Aaron Baker’s 14%. Ehsan Joarder received 3%. In St. Johns County, Fine received 76% of the vote to Baker’s 20% and Joarder’s 4%.
Weil received 61% of the vote to George A. “Ges” Selmont’s 39%. The results were much closer in St. Johns County, where Weil received 54.5% of the vote to Selmont’s 45.5%.
The special general election for Congressional District 6 will be held on April 1. Voting will be held in precincts 212/304, 213, 303, 305, 306/307, 308, 309, 310 and 322.
Early voting will be held March 22-29 at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 4455 Avenue A, Suite 101, St. Augustine, and the Southeast Branch Library, 6670 U.S. 1 South, St. Augustine.
Voter turnout in St. Johns County was low — 14.37% or 3,707 voters of the 25,795 eligible. Most voters went to the polls election day (1,525), though nearly as many voted early (1,488). The remainder voted by mail.
