The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus will present its 16th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. “Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing” concert on Saturday, Feb. 22. This extraordinary event is a heartfelt tribute to the enduring legacy of King and a celebration of Black History Month through the powerful medium of choral music.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 2 p.m. at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, 4001 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville.

The concert will feature a special performance by the Morehouse College Glee Club, under the direction of Dr. David Morrow, who has led the well-traveled group since 1981. Morehouse College was founded in 1867 and is noted as the nation’s only historically Black private liberal arts college for men. In fact, Morehouse is where King himself attended and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Sociology.

This event is sponsored by VyStar Credit Union, The Jacksonville Transportation Authority and Florida State College at Jacksonville. This year’s concert promises to be an afternoon of powerful music and deep reflection with emcees Isaiah M. Oliver, president of the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, and Lisa V. Johnson, chief technology officer at IBM.

Darren Dailey, president and artistic director of the Jacksonville Children's Chorus, expressed his enthusiasm for the event and its significance in their annual programming.

“The ‘Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing’ concert is a beloved tradition for our organization,” said Dailey. “We’re especially honored to share the stage with the Morehouse College Glee Club this year. At every performance, we aim for our audience to leave with something meaningful, but this concert is particularly powerful. As we pay tribute to those who fought for freedom in our country, we hope to inspire a deep passion for equity and love in everyone who attends.”

Tickets for the event are available online. Presale ticket costs are $20 for general admission seating and $40 for reserved seating. Reserved seating tickets will not be available at the door.

All proceeds from the event will support the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus’ scholarship programs and ongoing music education initiatives.
