K9s United has announced its ninth annual 9K for K9s to be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Ring Power, 500 World Commerce Parkway in St. Augustine. This event supports law enforcement canines who tirelessly protect and serve local communities, and honors those who have fallen in the line of duty.

The family-friendly event offers a variety of race options including a one-mile fun run, classic 5K, challenging 9K and virtual “no excuse” race, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

This year’s event will honor K9 Kilo, a German shepherd from the St. Augustine Beach Police Department. Over his eight years of service, K9 Kilo played a crucial role in recovering evidence and detecting narcotics. He also served as a goodwill ambassador for the community and located missing persons. Sadly, K9 Kilo died last year after an unexpected medical emergency.

Every participant who registers by Friday, April 11, will receive a race T-shirt featuring K9 Kilo or a K9s United branded dog bandana, while supplies last. Additionally, finishers will be awarded a medal adorned with K9 Kilo’s silhouette. Both the 5K and 9K will be chip-timed with awards for the top runners in each category. Athletes of all levels are encouraged to sign up now at runsignup.com/k9sunited to participate in the 9k for K9s.

Following the races, participants and supporters can enjoy a post-run celebration with children’s activities, a photo booth with K9 heroes, a K9 demonstration, local vendors and more. For the safety of participating law enforcement K9s, only service dogs are permitted to attend.
