Ocean Palms Elementary School celebrated literacy week by inviting national bestselling author Greg Tang to the school to teach literacy through play to students in kindergarten through grade five.
With four sessions, three for students and one for teachers, Tang took students on a journey fusing literacy and math with games such as a unique take on bingo. Students communicated back to Tang using hand signals and white boards to express their understanding.
Tang’s books, which include “The Grapes of Math,” “Math Fables” and “Math-terpieces,” are known for incorporating both math and literacy. All told, this literary celebration added up to a success!
