Local historian to present quirky, forgotten stories

As part of its Speaker Series: Art & History, the First Coast Cultural Center will host local historian Scott Grant on Thursday, April 16. He will present “Quirky and Forgotten Local Stories: Ponte Vedra Palm Valley & Nocatee History.”

The program begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be held at the First Coast Cultural Center, 6000B Sawgrass Village Circle, Ponte Vedra Beach.

In his presentation, Grant presents a visual history of Palm Valley, detailing the evolution of “Diego Plains” inhabitied by “swamp people” to the present-day community. His presentations highlight the area’s history, spanning from Spanish explorers and early, pioneering families to the impact of the Intracoastal Waterway (the “Canal”) and modern gentrification.

The admission fee is $20 for members of the First Coast Cultural Center, $25 for nonmembers.
