Nothing beats a great bargain and helping cure multiple sclerosis at the same time.
That's exactly what’s happening for the 14th consecutive year when the MS Awareness Silent Auction will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Mr. Chubby's Wings in Ponte Vedra Beach.
The event, which features 300 retail, service and restaurant items, is free to the public. All proceeds benefit the North Florida Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Items to be bid on include ski trips, beach B&Bs, weekend getaways, 85 local restaurants, sporting event and concert tickets, jewelry, kayaking and sailing, fine wine and much more — all donated by more than 200 area MS supporters.
Created and sponsored by local Bike MS cycling team Big Bananas, the event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars since 2012, all of which provides programs and services to the more than 18,000 North Floridians impacted by multiple sclerosis.
Said co-chair Linda Bushong-Reid, “Come to the auction and you’ll find not only great deals on items but a group of very passionate volunteers and MS staff focused on creating a world free of MS.”
Big Bananas was formed in 2010 and the team of 20 cyclists have fundraised more than $2.5 million to battle the disease. The team’s biggest fundraiser is the Oct. 3-4 Bike MS Cycle to the Shore ride, when they annually surpass the $200,000 level.
