When Advanced Roofing learned about a local artist facing losing her life’s artwork after home roof destruction from Hurricane Milton, the Jacksonville team took action to protect her decades of paintings.
St. Johns County artist Cynthia Walburn is renowned for calming, contemporary paintings, which provide comfort at hospitals, health care facilities and private collections. The Hillary Whitaker Gallery features her work.
As a result of the pandemic, Walburn moved her work from a studio to her home. Recently, when Hurricane Milton hit, Walburn’s roof suffered extensive damage threatening her workspace and livelihood. Her homeowners’ policy had a prohibitive deduction and company backlog.
Upon hearing of her dilemma, Advanced Roofing Jacksonville Manager Jason Carruth acted to ensure her inspiring artwork would be saved. He saw that a total roof replacement was necessary and offered to donate the entire job, including materials.
“Our team was inspired to do what we could after seeing this artist was facing difficult circumstances,” said Carruth. “Since our company has a 40-year tradition of helping others impacted by hurricanes, we wanted to make this experience as seamless as possible for Ms. Walburn.”

In the construction industry, it’s not only how you perform jobs, but also developing an engaged workforce where there is a commitment to cities we serve. This was another chance for our employees to share their expertise and passion.”
Walburn expressed gratitude that her new roof was installed a month prior to the 2025 hurricane season.
“I really wouldn’t know what to do if Advanced Roofing hadn’t stepped forward with their help,” said Walburn. “It has been a tough couple of years for artists nationally with the economy, and I’m eternally grateful for how the employees of this company came forward after I was at wit’s end, literally.”
