New St. Augustine Beach surf shop to host grand-opening event following beach cleanup

Mangrove Surf Shop, a new surf shop in St. Augustine Beach, is hosting its grand-opening event this Saturday, Dec. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Located across the street from Ocean Trace Beach Ramp at 4085 A1A South, the new First Coast business will have free beer tastings from Lagunitas Brewing Company, tacos for purchase from Purple Olive and music by the duo Jerm + Ham.

Before the grand opening, Keepers of the Coast (KOTC), a local sustainable living nonprofit organization, will host a beach cleanup from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ocean Trace Beach Ramp. Founded in 2007 to educate the community about how to protect coastal systems through sustainable living practices, KOTC will provide bags, gloves and more. Guests who bring their beach cleanup debris to the grand opening of Mangrove and/or dress in holiday-themed attire for the event will receive 15 percent off their entire purchase at the business, excluding surfboards.

“Our partnership between Keepers of the Coast and Mangrove Surf Shop is a no-brainer,” explained Billy Zeits, co-founder of KOTC. “Mangrove is owned by Dustin and Lauren Estes, who also own St. Augustine Surf School, one of the top-rated surf schools in the world. Together, living a sustainable lifestyle and keeping our beaches and oceans clean, are top priorities.”

Mangrove Surf Shop is now open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features Tribe Apothecary all-natural sunscreen, top surf brands and surf essentials such as boards, leashes and wet suits. The shop also serves as the hub for St. Augustine Surf School and will host a DRIFTERS Beach and Bike Rentals outpost.
