Bookmobile Friends seek board members

The Friends of the Bookmobile of St. Johns County needs board members to serve a one-year or two-year term. The board meets throughout St. Johns County and virtually on the second Thursday of the month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  If you are a book lover and library or bookmobile supporter and have one hour a month to help, contact Allison Olson at olsoninmn@gmail.com. 

Resume advice offered

The Savvy Job Hunters Ministry of Christ Episcopal Church will host a free virtual workshop, “Overriding Résumé Robots Applicants Tracking Software Systems,” from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday, May 2.

Learn how to optimize your résumé for success in your job search and make it past the résumé robots. The workshop will be presented by Audra Larsen, University of North Florida senior career counselor, Career Services.

Beach cleanup is Saturday

The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTM) will conduct a beach cleanup from 9 to 11 a.m. April 26. Meet at the GTM Research Reserve Visitor Center, 505 Guana River Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, where gloves and trash bags will be provided. Participants will be directed to a specific beach for cleanup. Hat, insect repellent, water and sunscreen are recommended.

Free skin cancer screenings offered

In honor of Melanoma Monday (May 5) and Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Advanced Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery is offering free skin cancer screenings — to new patients only — at select locations throughout the month of May. With skin cancer affecting millions annually, this initiative provides a crucial opportunity for the Jacksonville community to take action in protecting their health.

To secure a free screening, individuals can simply call 866-202-7050 and reference “Melanoma Monday” when scheduling.

Participating locations are:

  • Orange Park, 1893 Kingsley Ave, Ste B, Orange Park
  • St. Augustine, 200 Southpark Blvd., Ste 207, St. Augustine

Palm Valley Market every Tuesday

The Palm Valley Market is held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday inside the Palm Valley Community Center, 148 Canal Road. The market offers fresh produce, baked goods, local honey, tea, seasonal treats, soap, jewelry, plants and more.

Ponte Vedra Woman’s Club to meet

The Ponte Vedra Woman’s Club will hold its monthly general meeting and program on May 21 at the Marsh Landing Country Club clubhouse, 25655 Marsh Landing Pkwy., Ponte Vedra Beach. Check-in is at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and meeting are 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The program will be the PVWC annual charity and scholarship check presentations.
