St. Johns County Council on Aging (COA) will hold an open house for its Integrative Memory Enhancement Program, IMEP, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, 501 State Road 13, Fruit Cove. The open house will feature an overview of the IMEP program, sample class activities and exercises, and an opportunity for questions and answers. Light refreshments will be served.
IMEP is an original, research-based program designed to minimize the progression of memory loss and dementia and boost cognitive reserves. Presented by trained facilitators in a light-hearted atmosphere, each class integrates mind, body and brain connections through mental agility activities that support memory, reasoning, flexible thinking, problem solving and other brain functions.
Small group classes provide humor, peer interaction and authentic dialogue, allowing participants to experience connection and acceptance while building self-esteem.
“We are very excited to raise awareness about this innovative program with members of our community,” said COA IMEP Manager Susan Miller. “Whether you are starting to notice memory changes, have received a diagnosis of memory loss or dementia, or simply would like to be proactive about strengthening your memory, IMEP is an incredibly valuable resource.”
IMEP has been serving participants at several locations in St. Johns County for more than 15 years. The program is also being licensed and successfully implemented at other agencies and senior facilities throughout the United States.
