The annual Palm Valley Boat Parade was a big success this year.
“The Palm Valley and Ponte Vedra Beach communities were treated to one of the best-ever Holiday Boat Parades along the Intracoastal Waterway,” said Palm Valley Community Association President Greg Leonard. “This all-volunteer event, co-hosted by the Palm Valley Community Association (PVCA) and the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department delighted viewers at special facilities set-up by Parks and Recreation under the Palm Valley Bridge.”
An estimated 300 spectators watched from under the bridge during the event, held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
“This collaboration allowed us to engage a broader audience and provide a memorable experience to community members from across the region,” said Ryan Kane, director of the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department. “We are thankful to all those involved in making this event a success and look forward to continuing such partnerships in the future.”
The holiday event, featuring brightly decorated boats traveling more than seven miles along the Intracoastal Waterway, has been held for about the past 40 years.
This year, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners approved $5,000 to cover the cost of a free shuttle service, safety lighting, additional portable restrooms, trash cans and more.
“Council on Aging buses transported hundreds of guests from Landrum Middle School parking to and from the bridge before, during and after the event,” said Leonard.
“The Parade Launch Party under the East Side of the Palm Valley Bridge was alive with holiday music, and kids were eager to accept glow sticks and bracelets to help light up the night,” said Jayne Evans, PVCA vice president. “Food trucks were busy selling refreshments and hot chocolate to viewers on a chilly evening, and 2024 Boat Parade T-shirts were in high demand.”
Evans credited County Commission Chair Krista Joseph for taking the lead in gaining the commission’s support. She noted that both Joseph and County Administrator Joy Andrews were in attendance.
“Our warmest thank you goes to Ryan Kane, director of Parks and Recreation, for his enthusiasm and leadership,” Evans said.
“The Palm Valley Boat Parade was delighted to work with St. Johns County to significantly expand the public accessibility and overall spectator experience for this year’s Boat Parade,” said Beacham Still, parade coordinator. “The addition of remote parking, bleacher seating and on-site food trucks made for a great community celebration of the holiday season. We look forward to making additional improvements during the coming year and hope everyone will mark your calendars for Dec. 6, 2025!"
