Shoppers who stop by The Home Depot on U.S. 1 in St. Augustine June 3 will be able to pick up more than just hurricane preparation supplies.

The Salvation Army will distribute free doughnuts and coffee from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day as part of National Doughnut Day. The celebration is being held in conjunction with The Home Depot and the Saint Johns Emergency Operations Center, representatives of which will be on hand to provide information on hurricane preparedness and distribute evacuation maps.

For the sixth consecutive year, Entenmann’s will also join with The Salvation Army to honor the day by providing free doughnuts and co-branded Entenmann’s Bakery boxes.

Held each year on the first Friday in June, National Doughnut Day was established by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the “Doughnut Lassies” who served the treats to soldiers during World War I and to help raise funds during the Great Depression.
