Locally-owned and operated WSOS Radio, LLC has announced the launch of a new radio station in St. Johns County at 95.7 FM that will broadcast from a tower in Ponte Vedra and serve Ponte Vedra, Nocatee and Southeastern Duval County.
The new station will simulcast the classic hits format currently airing on 103.9 FM St. Augustine.
“Adding 95.7 to WSOS’s broadcast will enable us to reach inside an estimated 80,000 additional homes and 100,000-plus vehicles,” said Kevin Geddings, owner of WSOS Radio, LLC. “Because of a variety of FCC regulatory limits, 103.9 FM can’t reach many people in Nocatee and Ponte Vedra — the new simulcast on 95.7 FM will address that.
“St. Johns County radio listeners will now be able to access our classic hits of the 60s, 70s, 80s; updated hourly weather forecasts; local community spotlight interviews; high school and Flagler College sports coverage on 95.7 FM, 103.9 FM and 1170 AM,” Geddings continued. “WSOS also streams live at www.staugustineradio.com and via the WSOS app available at the Apple app store and Google Play.”
Geddings purchased WSOS 1170 in 2012 and added an FM simulcast at 103.9 and now 95.7. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted the company’s request for the new station at 95.7 on Jan. 3, 2018. Since then, WSOS has worked with Alsobrook Electronics Inc. – also of St. Johns County – to build out the new station on a 500-foot tower located at U.S. 1 and the Nocatee flyover.
“I live in St. Johns County and it is important that we have our own radio stations that solidly cover every inch of this wonderful place,” Geddings said. “Often, our weather, traffic and local news are different from what Jacksonville radio stations are airing. We will be aggressively marketing the new 95.7 FM in Nocatee and Ponte Vedra to make sure residents there know they have a new local FM radio station.”
