The Ponte Vedra High School Theatre Department will present “Alice by Heart,” a poignant and imaginative musical that reimagines “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” through the lens of love, loss and the power of imagination in the face of adversity.

Performances will run from Wednesday, Nov. 13, through Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Ponte Vedra High School Auditorium. Tickets are $12 and will be available for purchase online and at the door.

Set in London during the Blitz of World War II, “Alice by Heart” follows Alice Spencer, a young girl who takes refuge in an underground tube station while bombs rain overhead. As she reads her favorite book, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” to her ailing best friend Alfred, Alice transports them both into a world of wonder and escape. But as the boundaries between fantasy and reality blur, Alice must face painful truths about growing up, love and loss.

Written by Steven Sater and Jessie Nelson, with music by Duncan Sheik (“Spring Awakening”), “Alice by Heart” blends poetic storytelling with an evocative, modern score. The show invites audiences to rediscover the power of imagination and the resilience of the human spirit — even in the darkest of times.

The play will have two different casts, with Alice being played by Jadde Decast and Allison Luytjes, Alfred played by Charlie Pennella and Andy Szyslowski. The creative team includes Bailey Van Der Walt as stage manager, Jordan Warrington as assistant stage manager, Claire Popp and Elie Hill as assistant directors, Alexandria Mitsis as costume designer, Ethan Magnet as technical director, and Reagan Kearney leading choreography.

“We are thrilled to bring this beautiful and moving production to our community,” said Jason Nettle, director of the Ponte Vedra High School Theatre Department. “Our students have poured their hearts into this show, and we can’t wait to share its message of hope and creativity.”
