PVHS student plans 5K for patients with triple negative breast cancer

In summer of 2023, my mom Cindy was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She was treated at Mayo Clinic and fought hard for years to stop the disease from progressing. Our whole family’s lives changed drastically this past August when she lost the battle, but we are thankful that she is no longer in suffering or pain. Our whole family was able to be together to help her fight this horrible disease.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and my dad and I decided to find a way to honor my mom and help other patients with TNBC. Through the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, we are organizing a 5K called Cindy’s Sunshine Fairies. The name is a reference to my mom’s best friends, who took care of her by brightening her days throughout her battle with cancer. We hope to brighten other patients’ days through donations and awareness.

The 5K will take place at 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. We are meeting at the Mickler’s Beach parking area, and the event will take place on the beach. Participants can walk or run if they like, so the whole family can get involved. The Ponte Vedra High School soccer team is running together along with families and friends from the area.

To sign up and join our team, please visit this link: https://runsignup.com/Race/118364/Donate/4WeJTHT53FlKO7YA.

The event donation is $25, which is encouraged but not required to participate. All proceeds from donations will go directly to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation to help patients and research. Our goal is to raise $1,000 during this event to help others.
