On Thursday, July 10, the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach celebrated its annual “Passing of the Gavel,” welcoming new club President Chris Eckols, who succeeds Beverly Flanagan, who was honored for her steadfast leadership over the past year.
In addition to the leadership change, the club recognized outstanding contributions with awards that embody Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self”:
The ceremony also highlighted the club's commitment to disaster relief — specifically its response to the devastating Texas Hill Country floods that claimed more than 100 lives, including more than 100 in Kerr County alone. These flash floods occurred July 4-7, caused by an estimated 1.8 trillion gallons of rainfall, making it the deadliest inland flood in the U.S. since 1976.
The event, held at Marsh Landing Country Club, was attended by current and past Rotary leaders and members, reinforcing the strong tradition of fellowship and service that drives the club forward.
The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach serves local and international needs through ongoing projects, including polio vaccinations, disaster relief and educational scholarships.
