Nease girls soccer

After losing to Bartram Trail 2-1 in the district finals on Jan. 31, the Nease girls soccer team (12-6-2) rebounded with a dramatic, double overtime victory over Fletcher on Tuesday in the regional semifinals. With a final score of 1-0, senior Bella Kober scored the deciding goal. According to reporter Clayton Freeman of the Florida Times-Union, the win marked the program’s first playoff win since 2008. 

Nease boys soccer

The Nease boys soccer team (13-3-2) fell to Fleming Island, 4-2, in the district finals last Friday, Feb. 1. The team played Fletcher in the playoffs on Wednesday after this edition of the Recorder went to the printer. 

Ponte Vedra girls basketball

The Ponte Vedra girls basketball team (15-8) defeated Clay on Tuesday, 57-17. The Lady Sharks started off hot and took an 11-point lead after the first quarter. Ponte Vedra continued its pressure after halftime with strong passing to take command of the game. The Sharks were led by the inside post play of junior Hayden Oats with 11 points and the passing and efforts of sophomore Trish Balser with 10 pts to control the second half. Ponte Vedra takes on Pedro Menendez at Clay High School in the district finals on Thursday.
