Every year, TPC Sawgrass hosts a luncheon for the Storytellers to all get together to review the great year they have had and all of the work they do for their charities. Throughout the year, the Storytellers collect their gratuities, pool it together and disperse the money to charities of their choice.
This year, the Storytellers raised $38,000, bringing their total amount raised since they started this in 2007 to $361,000.
The charities that received this year’s donation included Gracie’s Kitchen, a nonprofit that serves food (primarily dinner) to homeless people; Diaper Bank of North Florida, which gives access to diapers and essential baby supplies to families in need; Operation Barnabas, which transforms the lives of military veterans once they return home; and Jacksonville Area Golf Association, which promotes golf, community and goodwill through tournaments and related events and activities.
The Storyteller program began in 2007 upon the completion of construction of the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse. With the size and stature of the clubhouse, the Tour came up with the idea to have volunteers give tours and explain the rich history of both TPC Sawgrass and The PLAYERS to guests of the property.
In the month of November, the Storytellers gave a tour to roughly 427 guests who came from 37 states and nine countries from across the world. Each year, the Storytellers will entertain guests from 41 different countries, including, Canada, England, Australia, Sweden, Scotland, China, Germany, South Africa and Ukraine. Total guests that received a Storyteller tour came to roughly 6,313 people.
Storyteller tours are given seven days a week at the top of every hour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is needed.
