Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often called Lou Gehrig’s disease. On Saturday, April 12, the local community will gather to support people living with ALS at the 2025 Walk to Defeat ALS Jacksonville presented by Duval Ford. The walk begins at 10 a.m. at UNF JB Coxwell Amphitheater, 1 UNF Drive, Jacksonville.
The Walk to Defeat ALS is the world’s largest signature event focused on supporting people living with ALS and their families. Through Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising efforts, the ALS Association has been able to dramatically accelerate the fight against ALS by funding the development of new ALS treatments, by discovering new ALS genes, by creating new global research collaborations and by significantly expanding access to ALS care.
Walk to Defeat ALS events are more than fundraisers. This is a movement that unites the community in support of those affected by ALS. Many who participate have a loved one battling ALS while others participate in memory of a loved one who has lost their fight. Some participate simply because they want to make ALS a livable disease for everyone, everywhere while we tirelessly search for a cure.
“The Walk to Defeat ALS in Jacksonville brings together the entire local community,” said Calaneet Balas, president and CEO of the ALS Association. “We are united by a shared purpose — to make ALS livable for all until we find a cure. We are truly grateful for the incredible support of participants, volunteers and sponsors from Jacksonville who make this memorable event happen.”
The event is emceed by Melanie Lawson of News4Jax. Sponsorships for the event are also available. Registered participants who raise $100 or more will receive an exclusive Walk to Defeat ALS T-shirt.
