Walk to Defeat ALS set for Saturday, Nov. 8

Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often called Lou Gehrig’s Disease. At 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, the community will gather at Ripley's Believe It or Not!, 19 San Marco Ave., St. Augustine, to support people living with ALS at the 2025 Walk to Defeat ALS St. Augustine presented by Ring Power, The Bailey Group, University of St. Augustine Health Sciences.

The walk is the world’s largest signature event focused on supporting people living with ALS and their families. Through Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising efforts, the ALS Association has been able to accelerate the fight against ALS by funding the development of new treatments, discovering new ALS genes, creating new global research collaborations and significantly expanding access to care.

Walk to Defeat ALS events unite the community in support of those affected by ALS. Many participants have a loved one battling ALS; others participate in memory of a loved one who has lost the fight. Some participate simply because they want to make ALS a livable disease while a cure is sought.

“The 2025 Walk to Defeat ALS St. Augustine brings together the entire local community,” said Calaneet Balas, president and CEO of the ALS Association. “We are united by a shared purpose — to make ALS livable for all until we find a cure. We are truly grateful for the incredible support of participants, volunteers and sponsors who make this memorable event happen.”

Whether walking in honor, in memory or in support, participants’ efforts matter and benefit the ALS Associations to support innovative global research, nationwide advocacy and local care services. The event is emceed by Davey Hartzel of Sunny TV. Registered participants who raise $100 or more will receive an exclusive Walk to Defeat ALS T-shirt.

The 2025 Walk to Defeat ALS is supported by national sponsors including Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma America, Numotion Foundation and Permobil Foundation.
