The St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce recognized eight individuals and one company at its signature annual recognition and awards event, “Branded 2018 – Recognizing Business Leaders That Make their Mark," last Friday, Oct. 19 at Shell Hall at World Golf Hall of Fame.
Mark Nighbor, the vice president of marketing and communications for Advanced Disposal and vice chairman of the Chamber for 2018-2019, was named the Member of the Year. John Dickinson, a managing partner and office head of Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete’s Jacksonville office, received the President’s Award, and Dr. Erika Hamer, the owner of Ponte Vedra Wellness Center, received the Chairman’s Award.
Joshua Hull, the branch vice president of the Nocatee location for VyStar Credit Union, received the Ponte Vedra Ambassador of the Year Award. This award is dedicated to Grace Hayes, the former editor of the Ponte Vedra Recorder. Robin Burchfield, a board member of St. Augustine Youth Services, was named the St. Augustine Ambassador of the Year.
Michael Scine of Scine CPA Advisors received the Public Policy Award for his efforts as chairman of the Chamber’s Public Policy Committee, while the PGA Tour received the EDC Member of the Year – Fred Schroeder Award for its economic impact on the community, especially in light of its construction of its new global headquarters in St. Johns County.
Mary O’Brien, the chief marketing officer of Meridian Waste Acquisitions, LLC, was recognized as the outgoing chairman of the board, while Rob Matthews of Matthews Design Group was recognized as the outgoing EDC chair.
In addition to the awards ceremony, a keynote address was given by Jeff Rosenblum, a leading innovator in digital marketing who has worked with teams that have helped revolutionize market research, publishing, sports broadcasting and interactive advertising. Rosenblum is the co-author of the book, “FRICTION: Passion Brands in the Age of Disruption," which argues that successful brands do not simply need clever messages or new, shiny technologies, but need a fundamental change in strategy.
